Compatible Sites

Supported Web Sites

Thumbnail Zoom Plus works on too many sites to list them all.  It includes a general approach which automatically works on many sites, even ones the developer has never heard of!

You can disable Thumbnail Zoom Plus on certain sites using their check-boxes in the Thumbnail Zoom Plus Preferences dialog.  Other sites are combined into the “Others” and “Thumbnails” check-boxes, and can’t be disabled individually.

Some of the supported web sites are listed below (the most popular are bold-faced):

love you extension, do you have one for google chrome?

    • May 11, 2012 at 9:39 pm

I don’t have a version of Thumbnail Zoom Plus for the Google Chrome browser, but Hover Zoom (by another developer) for Google Chrome is good.

It may be good…but it’s not TZP…this ext is literally the only one keeping me from switching to Chrome fulltime.

  4. September 26, 2012 at 8:06 pm

I hadn’t heard of ixquick before, but I’ll add it in the next release (2.4beta2).

as soon as i disable one site from the list thumbnail zoom plus stops working. i only want to use it on a few sites ,as it is a nuisance when scrolling through a forum and it starts zooming avatars and sigs.

    • October 3, 2012 at 11:58 pm

Which site in particular do you find makes TZP stop working? There was a bug until recently that disabling Wikipedia would disable many of the other rules. That is fixed in the current beta (2.4beta2).

    October 4, 2012 at 12:21 am

it was disabling any site in the list and ,others,
i got around the forum avatar and sig issue by unchecking “thumbnails”
i really like this add on ,but i would ask that for future releases that you incorporate the copying of image location so posting images in a forum doesnt need to save enlarged image and then uploading them.
    thanks

    • October 5, 2012 at 8:37 pm

You’re in luck: ‘Copy’ was added in version 2.4beta1.

In that version and newer, you can press ‘c’ to copy the image or ‘l’ (as in Location) to copy the image’s web location (URL).

  15. April 20, 2013 at 2:10 pm

Tweets with images hosted at pic.twitter.com don’t seem to work for me. I think it might be because the URL is t.co when it’s in a tweet, but is actually uploaded to/hosted at pbs.twimg.com/media/

So, it looks like Twitter is using 3 different URLs when an image is tweeted. @_@

Perhaps the site itself changed; the site seems to be doing something which prevents Thumbnail Zoom Plus from working on it, sorry.

  19. June 11, 2013 at 8:19 am

Myway.com is a news portal/aggregator that I like a lot (simple, few ads, low overhead, customizable) and that I would love to see get the TZP treatment. If you could make that happen, I’d be a very happy camper! 🙂

  20. June 12, 2013 at 10:47 am

And just like that, you’ve made me a happy camper! Thanks!

  21. June 27, 2013 at 3:02 pm

I’m running Windows 8 on a 64-bit computer and Thumbnail Zoom Plus won’t save enlarged images as enlarged images, only the same size as the original. Why is this? Is there a workaround?

    • June 28, 2013 at 10:02 pm

I don’t know; I haven’t seen that happen. What’s an example web page URL where this happens? When you say “same size as the original”, do you mean the same size as the thumbnail? Or is it the size of the 100%-zoomed pop-up (as seen if you press the ‘0’ [zero] key while popped up)?

      • June 29, 2013 at 6:45 pm

Thanks for your reply, David. It happens on any webpage and it saves in the same size as the enlarged picture when I click on the thumbnail, not the thumbnail itself, but I have it set to zoom at 200 percent in the preferences and I want the image to save at 200 percent which is what shows when I hover the pointer over the picture. I’ve been using the “Save Enlarged Image As” when right clicking but it only saves in the original image size, not the 200 percent size.

      • June 30, 2013 at 1:50 am

Ah, now I understand. The Save command is designed to save the image at exactly the same size as the full-resolution image on the web site, not the dispayed size. The additional size beyond 100% is just a zoom of the 100% image; there isn’t higher resolution data available.

You can get a similar effect to the 200% by zooming in when you view the saved image (e.g. by Control + if the viewing program supports that).

  22. June 30, 2013 at 2:44 am

Thank you for clarifying David; – so I’m guessing that the resolution when I use Control + is going to be the same resolution as the software would display for the same size zoomed image, is that correct?

    • June 30, 2013 at 2:48 pm

Yes, the quality you see after Control + in when viewing the saved image should be similar to what you see from Thumbnail Zoom Plus when it’s zoomed up e.g. to 200%.

    thanks

    • December 28, 2013 at 9:36 am

I don’t know of a similar add-on for Safari. If it can run “userscripts”, “Mouseover Popup Image Viewer” on userscripts.org might work.

Your extension is great but there’s one thing that’s missing for me: I’d like some way to browse through all the pictures if I’m hovering over an imgur.com gallery.

You can see how the imagus extension (firefox/opera/chrome) handles it (hover over link with mouse and then use arrow keys)

It should be fixed in version 2.7 (released Dec. 30, 2013).

  28. November 23, 2013 at 6:20 pm

I would like to be able to exclude certain specific sites.
Basically a csv file or xml, or whatever works best.
I do not wish to disable the addon in order to browse certain sites, I do not want annoying pop up images occurring when I hover over their buttons. This would be much appreciated.

Awesome plugin, thanks for all the work! I’m just curious if it’s possible to whitelist reddit only? Basically I only want to hover on reddit, but since it’s part of “Others”, a lot of other sites also get picked up. Is this possible? Thanks 🙂

Anybody else having recent problems with TZ & imger?

  37. September 5, 2015 at 9:51 pm

I use TZP mostly in the notification drop-down on Facebook. I get many pictures there and often all I need to see is the picture. I don’t need to click on the post. Having the zoom there is a great timesaver. TZP used to work on all of the thumbnails there. Now it only works on pics that someone has “added” and no longer on ones that have been “shared”. Can you do something to get TZP to work on all the thumbnails? And then please add TZP to Chrome. I have tried every one of the zooms available on Chrome and none will work in the notifications drop-down at all.

Is it possible to download the zoomed image by right click or some other option. It would be very useful.

Yes, press ‘s’ while the pop-up is displayed or after it’s displayed right-click and select “Save full-size image as”.
